I am part of a wonderful new non-for-profit called Aspiritech. They employ Aspies like me in software testing and similar computer-based fields. I am currently training to be a software tester (not earning $ for that), and I think I might be the first and only female employed there right now. But none of their employees are getting much work because clients are needed and advertising costs money.

The wordplay of the acronym is intentional, as I'm a big coffee drinker and am also an advocate of open-source assistive technology such as Linux.

UPDATE:

Adobe has since released an update of Flash player to patch this critical vulnerability. All you have to do is simply update your Flash player to the current edition with no worries.

The patched update for Adobe Reader will be arriving sometime later at the end of June.

Adobe issued an alert late Friday night to warn about zero-day attacks against an unpatched vulnerability in its Reader and Flash Player software products. The vulnerability, described as critical, affects Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris operating systems.   It also affects the authplay.dll component that ships with Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems, Adobe said.

Does anyone here use any kind of Assistive Technology (AT) in their daily lives?

As an avid Linux fan, I've been working with it for some time. The other day my EeePC 900 series had a problem with its upgraded SSD; apparently I could no longer format it. So out came the upgraded 64GB SSD, and in with the old 4GB (I'm not kidding) SSD, which made it considerably slower.

I tried out some old reliable distributions such as Ubuntu Netbook remix (too slow and bloated for me), Eeebuntu 3.0 (worked okay, but then problems arose - 4.0's coming out soon though), and then Crunchbang (great distro, but didn't have the time to fiddle with it to get it just the way I wanted it - but I miss the startup sound and the look so much!).

I had just about given up, when I happened to catch a review of Peppermint Linux; I read through the specs, and decided to give it a try, as I had nothing to lose.

Turns out it's a great distro - so far. User friendly, easy install, and simple to use. Requires no previous knowledge of Linux - although having experience is always a plus.

It looks great as well. It's got a light 'footprint' on my hard drive, boots quickly, and isn't a system hog.

Some of you who have bought new computers may have either upgraded (for free? just guessing, since I did) to Windows 7 or had one already pre-loaded with it.

Windows 7 is pretty nice - faster, not as annoying as Vista - but it does have an issue:
Compatibility.

However, if you are lucky enough to get the "Ultimate" version, Microsoft provides you with Virtual Machine, a way to run XP and Visa inside a new window inside Windows 7 - allowing you to run older software.
If you have the "Home Premium" edition, though, you're out of luck.
