books/hyperfocus
My 8 year old daughter loves reading to an obsessive level, she can read for hours and hours. She has meltdowns whenever I make her put down a book for another activity(i.e. bedtime, meals, etc.) I have had to take all her books out of her room so that she doesn't pick them back up when she should be sleeping. I love that she reads, and it seems odd lo complain about a child reading, but I am just about at my wits end. It also interferes with school, she isnt aloud to have books (even textbooks) in her desk, and will continue to read during discussions during reading group. She hyperfocuses and has to be physically touched in order to get her attention, often resulting in a meltdown. I was wondering if anyone else has any similar situations, or suggestions on how to help with this. I hate to discourage readin, but it seems like that is what I am doing here. Some of the books she has read include Black Beauty, The Hobbit, The Wizzard of Oz, and The Secret Garden, she is currently readin The Chronicles of Narnia series. I would love to hear from you.
