Current Homeschoolers what is your choice of curriculum for your child?
I am currently homeschooling three of my four kids ( My nine year old, my 6 year old and my 3 year old) . All three are on the spectrum and they each have their own unique challenges.
Last year I went with Seton for my oldest son. They did have special ed help availible but I decited to do the regular program and it really proved to be too much for him. I got more understanding out of less work. Something that I was really not expecting.
What are some of the curriculums that you have done in the past or are currently doing now?
I am still using some of Setons books but I have added others, such as the Spectrum books. (But the funny thing is they have nothing to do with being on the Spectrum.)
Thanks for sharing!
We have been homeschooling for three years in July 2011. We've come from a Montessori background. My son is in year three this year.
I'm eclectic and use a variety of different approaches and curricula dependent upon what is working for my son (and myself) at the time. At present we are using Singapore New Syllabus Math, Sequential Spelling, Story of the World, New Wave Literacy (Australia), Reading Around, Writing About (Australia), Minimus Latin, Latin for Homeschoolers, various computer games (standard gaming rather than edutainment gaming), Meet the Masters, and we create our own Science curriculum. We add to all of this as required. We are currently looking at Math-U-See as I have dyscalculia and I don't want my son to struggle through a dyslcalculic mother 'teaching' him arithmetic as he seems to have a mind for math.
Of all of what we use, I can't recommend Sequential Spelling enough.

Hello,
I have a 6 year old HFASD with highly sensitive ears!! Being in a classroom is just not going to work (for now) and I am grateful for the homeschooling option.
We are currently using K12.com through our school district. Not our first choice, but wanted the security of district services - which we are declining right now as we have chosen private sources for now.
K12.com has a great history program add in google earth and we are rockin' it!
Math is a bit repetitive so we do a page or two, play a little and jump to test out.
Phonics and Language Arts do not work well together like they should. However, I am resourceful and we are doing fine.
My son is currently into astrophysics and is having a difficult time with "baby science" but it is a really good foundation. So, I make him work through it all.
Electives through our district program, we get Music (which is driving me nuts but he likes) and Art. I like the art and we are enjoying it but definitely have to add in some drawing skills from another book purchased last year.
However, if we would have gone through the California Virtual Academy (K12 program), we would have Spanish. I asked about it but our district is sticking with their choices.
In all, we are doing fine. I am considering purchasing the program through the discovery channels website (yeah, they have the golden ticket). Their are two options, $265 and $365 per year. The visual and video is beyond anything we have seen. We did the one month trial and that is where I discovered my sons boredom in elementary level work. He chose high school stuff when given the option.
Either way, I love having the homeschooling options that are out there. My son does too. He never wants to go into that "loud" (pencils scratching paper) environment.
