Going back to school
Anyone have any general (or specific? I guess!) advice about being an adult going back to school? I did fairly well in high school, except for morning classes that I slept through (I had undiagnosed liver bile reflux from childhood until age 19 so I never slept at night because I always thought I'd throw up if I laid down). I did go to college right after high school because it was the only way to keep my parents insurance, I worked at that time too, and had no idea what I wanted to do in school and I think that made me do poorly, there was no real incentive to do well. I was also not diagnosed with AS or dyslexia until age 24, after I had quit college.
I am wanting to go back, and be a physical therapist so I can eventually open a therapuetic riding stable. I have real, tangeable goals in mind now, so I think it may be better.
Anything I should know? :)
Yeah, start slow, with just a course or two. Before hand, wander around the campus to get to know the place, and scout out where your classes are.
Make sure to contact the special needs office if you need any in-class and exam accommodations or alternative course materials.
I'm in Australia and have just started back to University in my early 40's. I'm studying online and only taking one class per term. I'm hoping to complete a Psych degree in order to work specifically with low income people on the spectrum and families in a neurodiveristy and pro-autism rights advocacy role.
Online learning is easier for me as I don't have to navigate the great big school and all that goes with that. I'm also a single mother and I homeschool so it allows me to be self-directed (so far) as the only timetable I need to meet is to have readings and assignments done when they are required.

I would start slow, only taking one or two classes. Find out if you can get any support or accommodations for AS and/or dyslexia. Get to know your advisor and use that person as a resource to help you plan for your goals.
Enjoy learning!
