Had IEP meeting today to discuss transition, and...
...it took 2 1/2 hours. They planned on one hour. LOL. We got pretty much what
we wanted. He'll have one full day at his current level 3 school(Monday, Aug.
16). Then on his second day(tuedsay, Aug. 17 and first day at his district
school), he will start the day in the morning and stay there for two hours. Then
he will go to his level 3 school for lunch and the afternoon. The District
special education head person even reccommended starting this transition on the
first day, as I have insisted, so he isn't a "new kid" joining the class
later. There was 17 people at the meeting, and that wasn't even all of the team
members. The only thing I didn't agree with, fully, is the wording as to a
one-on-one para. They have it down as," small group and adult support. Not a
one-on-one para, etc. They said they dont' do that anymore, yet, I personally
know a parent whos son, with autism, recieves a one on one para all day. My main
concern it that if he is in the regulare education class, and needs one on one
help, and the "adult support" is working with 4 kids, then how is he going to
get the one one one support that he needs without being sent to the resource
room. Right now, I am going to try to relax, and not think of this. I stayed up
till about 4am this morning reading Rule 51, throughly. (very interesting
reading). Anyway... we are now moving forward.
