Hi everyone!  Just thought I'd drop by and check out what's happening. Our family of three is on the spectrum. I was diagnosed with AS in my 30's having spent my life up until then trying to figure out what the deal was with me. Getting that diagnosis has made a big difference.

Welcome to AWN Marian!  I was diagnosed with AS in my 40's...  I like the quote you use with your signature. Cool

Thanks for the warm welcome! What a wonderful idea to start this site/forum. I'm looking forward to reading and contributing.

I kind of like that quote myself  Thanks!

Welcome Marian,

I am new to this forum as of yesterday.  Sounds like you are not a "newcomer" to the world of ASD.  I look forward to learning from your posts.

Best regards,

Melanie

Hi Melanie,

I've been around the block a few times, you might say.Laughing Welcome to the forum. You might learn a thing or two from my posts....mostly how not to conduct yourself...just kidding! (Come to think of it,  popularity isn't my strong suit. I just learned how to like myself in spite of it all.

Hi Marian. Wise words. Arriving at that acceptance of self is so important. Warts and all.

Hi Cali-mom,

I miss Cali, San Fran and San Rafael. Visited there a few years back.

Thanks for the compliment. Wisdom is often hard won; I'd like it if even one Aspie could benefit from my less than rosy experience.

Have you got children on the spectrum?

Yes, a 12-yo son with HFA/bipolar. He is adopted, oddly enough!

He is in pretty good company in our family.

Hi, MarianSmile. I was diagnosed with AS @ 34 1/2. It's made a difference for me, too.

Hey group,

in what forum do you all discuss where to go for a diagnosis, how to help one's self, what does the day in the life of an aspie  look like....that sort of thing?

thanks,  melanie

That's a great question! Personally, I'd ask the forum moderators to make a category just for that purpose because I'm not really sure which forum titles meet what you're looking for.

Maybe this new category could be called: A Day in the Life of an Aspie from your post.

Barring that, there's Pot Pourri but methinks it will get lost in there.Laughing

Hi Marian!!!

As for daily Living skills issues, as well as general ASD Discussion:

the section of the forum that is labeled "Strategies for Daily Living" Has a section for the discussion of food (Bon Appetite), a section about clothes (On the Catwalk), and a section on Relationships (relationships), as well as one on parenting issues and a place to ask NTs about things. If your discussion falls under one of these topics (relationships isn't limited to romantic relationships! also, friends, family, etc) you would post them there.

We moved a couple of things to the "AWN Members Only" because of the sensitive nature of the discussions that were happening in them. The two that were moved are the "Health and Hygiene" and the "Bullies and toxic People" sections. There is also a "sanctuary" section as an area to vent as one would in a blog post. Health and Hygiene covers mental and emotional as well as physical health and hygiene issues. you could post questions about specific ASD related issues (for example, we have a couple on Autistic Inertia) or about Dx stuff there.

:D :D :D :D I hope that helps! Basically, the vast majority of this site is about our daily lives, but broken down into different sections of our lives. If you aren't sure where a thread should go, guess, and at worst a mod will simply move it.
