I'm spreading the word...

For both children and adults on the spectrum, you may be able to get a weighted blanket for free.

Allcare Medical in Massachusetts is processing medical claims for Cozy Calm weighted blankets.  Most Mass plans and some national plans will cover it.

Dealing with medical insurance is painful, like getting a tooth pulled.  Allcare does it every day, so they can help you with getting a claim in.

For Cozy Calm this has been long in the making.  It's a process to make sure we are legal for medical supply sales.  My attorney is happy.  :-)

The changes in legislation that many states are adopting mandates that insurance companies must cover autism-related expenses.  The medical insurance advocates pushing this have gotten a lot of states on board.

Here is the link to learn more, so if people you know in Massachusetts could get them for free, let them know.

Great news! My biggest hurdle with helathcare is that they are not covering anything I use or need. Only medication. I don't use medication, except for my asthma inhalers. I use a lot of other things that aren't even considered, such as a weighted blanket. I am so glad people are starting to recognize this!

Squirrel,

If you have a diagnosis, you may be able to get one.  If you have a national plan, it may be covered.  If you have Medicaid or whatever it's called in each state, contact Mandi.  She handles all of that helping people get their blankets covered.

She can be reached at 612-644-9352 or at m.carlson@cozycalm.com

Mind you, we are still at the mercy of insurers.  But, many states are mandating autism coverage, so the odds go up that you can get one.  Mandi keeps track of that.

This is not a money maker for us, but since I am on the spectrum, I can do activisim in my biz owner role.

Have a good weekend,

Eileen.

Thanks Eileen! I do have a dx (autistic disorder) as well as medicaid and medicare. I am not in MA right now but when I move I will definitely pursue this when I get all my benefits set up there. Also, I have section 8 so if I have to pay out of pocket for it I can write it off as an out of pocket medical expense and they will lower my rent. I am in the process of trying to get autistic treatments that are not covered counted as out of pocket medical expenses with the housing authority. We'll see how successful I am. It's different everywhere.

Thanks!

Chelsea
