The Middle
Anyone see the show The Middle? I think the youngest son, Brick Heck is Aspie. His dad may not be far off the spectrum either. Someone who is very smart and who would rather read books (which he seems to absorb like a sponge) instead of play with others.
He is even enrolled in a social skills group! He doesn't relate to people well and often repeats things to himself in a whisper, sort of an echolalia (sp?) kind of thing. I have done this as well.
I definitely agree with both of you re: the Middle's character, Brick coming off as very spectrumy. Brick has a lot of ASD traits such as echolalia (repetitive vocalizations) and echoloalia is closely associated with the autism spectrum.
Here is a link I came across to an article which mentions Brick's character & echolalia & Asperger's: Asperger Syndrome in the Media.
I'd bet dollars to dounuts that they will never admit a character has autism unless that is what the show is ABOUT. People were asking if Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory had some form of autism, and they denied it immediately. They don't want to deal with the issue, which is terrible. We need more autistic characters on our flat-screens and tv cabinets to help the situation.
does any watch parenthood the one son on the show named Max is an aspies since the show is a drama his character is portrayed in a quite different light then brick but I thought i would point this out.
I haven't watched Parenthood (I've heard mixewd reviews). Some of my friends really like it, and others don't. I'd like to find the time to check it out. What do you think, geebowie?
I really enjoy the show parenthood the character of Max is the one who is an Aspie. the show portrays the downsides of Aspergers mostly but they are starting tom so more good sides of Max. for the rest of the show it is pretty go drama about a large family.

I am pretty sure Brick is and aspie. I like the episode where it talked about carrying ketchup packets in his pocket to sooth himself.
