Pretending to Be Normal was the first book I read after my diagnosis.  Liane sits on our Advisory Board here at AWN, and she is an active member of the forum.  Liane tells me that she is currently writing another book.  As she jokingly puts it, "a grown up version of Pretending to be Normal." Smile

Dr. Tony Attwood diagnosed Liane, and she states that her diagnosis helped to explain the countless questions she had throughout her life.  I know the feeling - I bet you do too!

Thanks, Sharon, for the warm welcome to AWN.  I am excited to be a part of a forum just for women on the spectrum.  So many of us have been waiting for too long to find our voice unified with other women on the spectrum.  I look forward to sharing ideas, insights and support.  While we are all obviously going to be so very different from one another, I'm hopeful we will be able to learn from each other and continue to build a huge foundation that celebrates differences not only in the ASD world, but beyond.

Celebrating differences, Liane

I love that book, Sharon. (Good job Liane!)

If an adult asks what it's like to have Asperger's, I recommend "Pretending to be Normal". I can relate a lot better to Liane's experience than other books. Not to say other books are bad, but it's just nice to read a book and go "Wow, I feel like that too!"

I recall especially relating to the story of the stranger in the classroom. I had a similar experience at the public bus stop I use. There was a man who was walking funny and talking strangely. I didn't put two and two together until he started getting very irate and scary; after hiding in the college and looking out the window I saw the *police* come to talk to him. Apparently, he had been fighting on the bus! Good grief, I'm lucky all he did is yell at me.

Liane, I can't wait to read your next book either. :)
