Winter time is when my interest for aquariums peek. I am trapped inside all day, soooo, I love working on and enjoying my aquariums and the fish, snails, etc. in them. I just got a 20 gal. aquarium and put my Oranda and my black moor in it. ( My poor black moor is now blind. he doesn't look good. His eyes clouded over and I am thinking that it is  what they call ick, as there are white patches also on other parts of his body. ( he has been through hell for his lifetime. I accidentally poisoned him with chlorimine when I first got him and he swam upside down for about a week, after I corrected the situation. Then my younger son dumped Thomas the trains into his fish bowl( that he was in at the time). He has a few damaged fins). The oranda is fine. Here is a photo of the set up. these fish get up to 6" and longer if you include their tail and fins. that is my son Tayler looking at the fish. I also have two 10 gal. aquariums. One has a plecosemous, large snail, 7 neon tetras and one "head light tail light tetra"( he has an "s" shape spine, but swims pretty good). In my other 10 gal. aquarium I currently have 28 little Mollies. They were born Dec. 6 and are getting bigger. I have homes for a few of them. I need to narrow the bunch down to about 5 for the size of aquarium. THIS time, I will find out the sexes of each and only keep males. That way, no suprises like I had this last time when I bought only one molly. Then I have a 5 gal. aquarium that has 2 tiger barbs. I have two 2  1/2 gal. aquariums, one has a light yellow veil tail betta, and the other has a green and red crown tail betta. this is a photo of mama molly, before she gave birth to her fry. She died shortly afterwards.

I love the Snail. So cute!

We had fish all the time when my mom was still with my Bio dad. I liked the Neon Tetras a lot then.

I finally realized what is happening to my Moor. The Oranda is nibbling on it. I caught it trying to "eat" the moors eyes. Frown, so I took it out of the aquarium and now am trying to figure out where to put him. I know he can see light(becasue he reacts to when I lean over the  one gal. ice cream bucket he is currently in, casting a shadow) , but his eyes are clouded over, and he has to scavenge the bottom for food. He will have to be kept by himself, as he can't defend himself anymore.

Oh, the poor Moor Genisa!  Is this typical for an Oranda to do to the Moor? Frown

I love your tanks. The blue rocks in the one are pretty. We all agree, that snail IS cute. Sorry to hear about the Moor, but isolating him should solve the problem. Thanks for sharing.                                                                            Laughing

The Oranda and the Moor have been together for a year with no problem. I have had the moor for about 2 years. They are both fantail "goldfish", just different varieties. The oranda has not been a problem till just recently. I thought it was becasue of the 10 gal. being too small, which is why I got the 20 gal. He was still agressive after I put them both in the larger aquarium.

I finally realized why I have been feeling down and lethargic lately. I felt guilty for leaving my poor Black Moor in an Ice cream bucket( as I  had no where to put him) and felt anger at the Oranda(becasue he was hurting the moor). I finally forgave the Oranda( I was feeling guilty for being angry at it). I also gave in and got a 10 gal. aquarium( just the aqurium, as I don't have enough money for anthhing else for it) and put on an old filter that I had. He is MUCH HAPPIER!!!!! He is swimming all over. I hope his eyes heal enough for him to actually see more than just light and shadows(which is what he is seeing right now) I know this becasue when I add food to the tank, he can't see it and swims right by it. He must be able to smell it becasue he keeps searching for it. He knows when I put food in, now, because I put in a pinch and swirl the water around to get it to sink and also to be a signal that there is now food in the tank. Fish are quite smart and learn very quickly. As soon as I swirl the water, he goes to the bottom and starts to do the bottom feeding thing. If he wasn't also a bottom feeder, then he would not make it blind at all. He will  have to be the only one in the tank as his eyesite puts him at a huge disadvantage when it comes to feeding, and being picked on( or eaten as the oranda was doing to him).

soooo, now that makes: one 20 gal.; three 10 gal.; one 5 gal.; and two 2 1/2 gal. aquariums. Did I say I love my fish. I really need to name them.  I also moved the 5 gal.(2 tiger barbs) and the two bettas away from the corner wall in the kitchen where it is cold.

That is a lot of fish tanks, Gen!  My wife loves fish, but I'm not really a big fan.  I really like having a dog, and our macaw.  He can't talk yet, but I'm still hopeful!  My clients love seeing pictures of my pets!
